About the
Planetary Science
Pavilion

The Planetary Science Pavilion seeks to translate the science of planetary interconnectivity into empathy and action by bridging research, ancestral knowledge, and policy throughout COP30. It envisions a world where every decision—scientific, political, and personal—respects the limits of our planet and safeguards the health of all living beings. Through this space, we aim to bridge science and diplomacy, celebrate ancestral and Indigenous knowledge, and inspire collaboration toward a just, resilient, and 1.5°C-aligned future.

“Science is clear: we are putting the stability of the entire planet at risk. There is no chance to solve the climate crisis or ensure delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals unless we urgently turn the tide on all nine Planetary Boundary processes. World development and human justice are on the line, calling for decisive and collective action to secure a livable planet.”
Johan Rockström
"The global climate crisis is extremely serious. In 2021, at COP26, 196 countries committed to limiting global warming to 1.5 °C by 2050 — a threshold that was already temporarily reached in the second half of 2023, when the planet recorded unprecedented droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and extreme rainfall. This temperature above 1.5 °C persisted until April 2025. If we continue emitting tens of billions of tons of greenhouse gases each year and global warming reaches 2 °C, ecosystems such as coral reefs and the Amazon rainforest could collapse. Yet the battle is not lost: science clearly shows that if we keep warming close to 1.5 °C and remove carbon from the atmosphere by the end of the century, we can still avoid the tipping points. "

Goals of the Pavilion

The Planetary Science Pavilion is a flagship platform ensuring that science drives the COP30 agenda. In close partnership with the COP30 Presidency, it anchors negotiations and implementation in planetary science, bridging research, policy, and action.

The Pavilion fosters collaboration among scientists, policymakers, Indigenous leaders, Heads of State, and the public, promoting interdisciplinary exchange that links global development to Earth’s stability. Through clear, coordinated communication and media engagement, it advances the Presidency’s vision
and provides a shared space to identify priorities, risks, and opportunities through a whole-Earth lens.

Serving as a trusted scientific reference point at COP30, the Pavilion curates critical research and solutions, celebrates Brazilian and global excellence in modern and ancestral science, and highlights the Amazon and the Three Basins as vital to planetary balance.
